What is Monkey’s minimum age in Australia?

Monkey is strictly for people aged 18 and over. Anyone under 18 is prohibited from creating an account or using Monkey.

Australia’s social media minimum-age rules concern under-16 accounts on certain platforms. Monkey’s own minimum age remains 18, so people aged 16 or 17 are also not eligible. Learn more on eSafety’s website.

How does Monkey enforce its age requirement?

Monkey combines third-party facial age checks, AI-assisted moderation, safety-team reviews and user reports to identify and exclude underage users. We do not rely solely on the date of birth entered at registration.

In May 2026, we added k-ID to strengthen our existing age-assurance measures.

Follow the verification prompt in Monkey. Depending on availability, k-ID offers:

  • Facial age estimation: Take a selfie to assess whether you meet our 18+ requirement.
  • Photo ID: Confirm your age using a supported government-issued photo ID.
  • ConnectID: Verify your age through a participating Australian bank. Not all banks are supported.
  • AgeKeys: Use a supported reusable credential establishing that you meet our 18+ requirement.

You must complete the check yourself. Using another person’s information or verified account to bypass age restrictions is prohibited. Accounts confirmed to belong to users under 18 are blocked and removed.

How is my privacy protected?

k-ID and its verification providers handle the information submitted for the check. Monkey only receives the age-eligibility result, not your facial scan, ID image or bank account details. For more help with k-ID, please visit their help center here.

We retain verification results only for as long as necessary for age-assurance purposes and related reviews, and delete them once those purposes have been met. Verification images are used only to check age and deleted after processing. Results are not displayed on your profile or used for advertising. See our Privacy Policy.

How can I report a suspected underage user?

Report the account during a match or from your match history. Our safety team reviews reports and removes accounts confirmed to belong to minors.
