Age Assurance and Online Safety for Users in the United Kingdom
What is the UK Online Safety Act?
The Online Safety Act places duties on regulated online services to address illegal content and protect children from harmful content and interactions. Ofcom oversees these requirements. You can learn more on Ofcom’s website.
Monkey is an 18+ service. Our age-assurance measures support enforcement of this minimum age alongside our content moderation, reporting and review processes. At Monkey, we support thoughtful regulation that encourages safer online experiences for everyone.
How does Monkey check my age?
UK users are required to complete an age check during registration. Existing UK users are required to complete an age check when our moderation processes identify indications that they may be under 18.
Monkey already uses third-party facial age checks, AI-assisted moderation, safety-team reviews and user reports to identify and exclude underage users. In May 2026, we added k-ID to strengthen these measures. Follow the verification prompt in Monkey. The available age-check methods and the information required for each method will be explained before you begin. For more help with k-ID, please visit their help center here.
Complete the check yourself. Another person’s image or documents, altered or AI-generated material, and someone else’s verified account must not be used to bypass age restrictions.
What happens if the result is uncertain or incorrect?
If the check does not establish that you are 18 or older with sufficient confidence, access remains restricted. You may be asked to complete another available verification method.
An inconclusive result does not necessarily mean you are underage. If you believe a decision is incorrect, contact hello@monkey.app to request a human review, including where the restriction resulted from an automated check. Our team will explain the available review steps and correct an age-related restriction found to have been applied in error.
Accounts confirmed to belong to people under 18 are banned.
How is my privacy protected?
k-ID and its verification providers handle information submitted through the age-check process. Monkey receives the age-eligibility result, not the facial image or ID image you submit through that process.
Verification images are used only to check age and deleted after processing. Monkey does not receive or store those images. Verification results are not displayed on your profile or used for advertising. Please review our Privacy Policy.
Do safety checks continue after verification?
Yes. Age verification works alongside ongoing AI-assisted moderation, safety-team reviews and user reports. We may restrict an account and require further verification if later information raises concerns about underage use, account sharing or attempts to bypass our safeguards.
Report suspected underage accounts or other safety concerns during a match or from your match history. Our safety team reviews reports and takes action under our rules.
How can I make a complaint or appeal a decision?
Contact hello@monkey.app about age checks, account restrictions, content decisions, the handling of reports, or concerns about our online-safety measures.
Please identify the affected account or report and explain what you believe went wrong. Our team will review your concern, explain the outcome and provide relevant next steps. You can access support even while your account is restricted.
